Liverpool defender and Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk has given his seal of approval for Donny van de Beek ahead of his expected move to Manchester United. The Ajax midfielder has already undergone a medical with the Red Devils and he is currently on the cusp of signing a five-year contract with the club.
Speaking in a press conference, van Dijk wished his compatriot the best and believes the midfielder is moving to a great club. He added that he is also glad for Nathan Ake, who made the switch to Manchester City from Bournemouth earlier this summer, he told: “[The Van de Beek transfer] looks like it’s going to happen indeed. From my heart, I wish him the best. It’s wonderful for him, it’s a nice step for him to move to a great club as a Dutch player. Also the same for Nathan Ake, who moves to Manchester City. I’m glad for both of them.”
The Red Devils have not made any addition to the first-team squad and a month of the summer transfer window has already elapsed. That has led to frustration for the majority of the fans and they could now rejoice with the purchase of Van de Beek from the Dutch champions. The Red Devils vastly improved their creativity during the backend of the season with the signing of Bruno Fernandes, who netted 12 goals and eight assists from 22 appearances.
With van de Beek, they will have another midfielder, who can influence the proceedings in the final third of the pitch. The Dutchman amassed 11 goals and 10 assists across all competitions for Ajax last term. He operated in both the attacking and central midfield positions. Following the arrival of Van de Beek, the club are expected to pursue a new centre-back, right winger and striker.
