Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has claimed that the Reds need not panic after a disappointing performance against Red Bull Salzburg. Even though the Reds came out on top thanks to a 4-3 victory, the Austrian champions almost picked up a famous comeback at Anfield. Liverpool had a three-goal lead in the game and it was eroded with a fantastic comeback from the visitors. However, Mohamed Salah came up with a winner in the second half to salvage the pride of the home team. The seven-goal thriller has raised concerns about the team ahead of the Premier League game against Leicester City.
Virgil van Dijk is regarded as one of the finest defenders in the Premier League and Europe. He was even nominated for the FIFA best Player of the Year title along with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Even though the former Southampton defender was unable to pick up this title, his quality is undisputed. After having failed to make any new signings in the summer, Liverpool are having to deal with a familiar squad for the 2019-20 campaign. So far, it has not brought about any issues with the team managing a 100% record in the Premier League. Van Dijk thinks that there is no reason to be concerned even after this thrilling encounter.
“Of course everyone wants to panic and stress and maybe look for all the negatives but we shouldn’t.I’m not even looking at the negatives. We know we can do better but we are human beings and we can’t always play the perfect game. Sometimes it happens. So far we are doing pretty well this season. We shouldn’t forget that after one night where we were a bit disorganised. There’s no reason for panic at all, we just need to relax, have a look at what can be better,” said Van Dijk.
